the magnificent seven fan fiction

It's strange, isn't it, that I came into the Magnificent Seven fandom straight from Oz? Despite the overabundance of Chris/Vin fiction on the internet, it didn't even feel like a choice when I fell for the underdog OTP of Chris/Ezra. Chris' character appeals to the shallow side of me that goes all "Oh, pretty! Mysterious! Hero figure! Have I mentioned pretty?". Ezra's character is just as intriguing in his own right, although he uses another method altogether to hide his secret hurts - he pretents nothing is amiss and that what you see is what you get: a flashy conman with no real ties to anybody or anything. They both care more than they'd ever admit. So why shouldn't they both be secretly caring for each other? The sparks their different personalities would create could start a bushfire.

The main pairing on this page is
Chris Larabee / Ezra Standish.

cobalt

Title: Descent Story Length: ~ 93 KB
Series: none Rating: NC-17
Category: Slash Warnings: none
Pairing: Chris Larabee / Ezra Standish Time Frame: Old West, Post-Season 2
Genres: Angst, Drama Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: What felt like a new beginning turned into a sordid secret. Hasn't there got to be a reason?
Review: cobalt uses some of the clichés and generalized character descriptions that irk me in this fandom, but all in all, this story is quite good and well worth a read. Chris at his most pig-headed, secretive and protective, Ezra delightfully vulnerable. Too bad cobalt usually writes Ezra/Vin fiction, although even that is fit for putting you through the emotional wringer. Unfortunately, the story (and the author's website) are currently offline.

Title: Little Boy Lost offsite Story Length: ~ 10 KB
Series: none Rating: PG-13
Category: gen Warnings: none
Pairing: none Time Frame: ATF Post-Assembling of the Team
Genres: AU, Drama, Supernatural Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: Late out at night to meet the rest of the team, Ezra has an encounter of the unusual kind.
Review: I'm not a big fan of IndigoCat's C/E fiction, but this little story is a gem. Wonderfully focused and to the point, it hits you right where you live and leaves you stunned and curious as to how it all might go from there. I've been waiting for a sequel for years and even today refuse to give up hope entirely.

Watershed
Title: Offering offsite Story Length: ~ 3 KB
Series: Part 1 of Watershed Rating: R
Category: Slash Warnings: none
Pairing: Chris Larabee / Ezra Standish Time Frame: Old West not specified
Genres: Angst Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: Chris never wanted more than to assuage a need. Until it all changed.
Title: Yearning offsite Story Length: ~ 3 KB
Series: Part 2 of Watershed Rating: PG-13
Category: Slash Warnings: none
Pairing: Chris Larabee / Ezra Standish Time Frame: Old West not specified
Genres: Angst Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: Ezra cannot believe in a deeper feeling than lust - although he wants to.
Title: Watershed offsite Story Length: ~ 15 KB
Series: Part 3 of Watershed Rating: R
Category: Slash Warnings: none
Pairing: Chris Larabee / Ezra Standish Time Frame: Old West not specified
Genres: Angst Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: Chris needs more. Ezra gives. So that they can both be free.
Review: Lumina~'s above-listed trilogy was the reason I fell as hard for this fandom as I did - otherwise, the lack of well-written C/E fiction would have had me leaving for greener pasture in a matter of weeks. I've re-read her stories too often to count and even ventured into gen when I had exhausted the fandom's amount of C/E stories. Her "Watershed" trilogy remains true to the characters and the time the series is set in, and while short, the stories hint at a world full of potential and a limitless future. I can't help but regret deeply the fact that she has drifted off into another OTP: Buck/Ezra, for even her skill cannot drag me over to that particular dark side.

Rose Ferguson

Title: Transit offsite Story Length: ~ 74 KB
Series: none Rating: NC-17
Category: Slash Warnings: none
Pairing: Chris Larabee / Ezra Standish Time Frame: Old West not specified
Genres: Angst, First Time Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: Chris and Ezra set out to Tucson to save an innocent man's life, and Chris winds up contemplating Ezra naked in all senses of the word.
Review: Rose Ferguson is an author comfortable in the time and setting of the series and very skilled in painting a picture of Chris' and Ezra's surroundings. Furthermore, she has the characters down pat. The slowly developing relationship she shows us feels so real that it just augments the interactions between the characters we know from the series instead of contracting them. "Transit" is another one of my all-time favorites I have re-read countless times. Too bad this is her only C/E story; she seems to have left the Magnificent Seven fandom.

sablecain (aka Debby)
e-mail: sable_cain@yahoo.com livejournal: ljsablecain
Title: He Sees [1], [2], [3] (author page @ ff.net) offsite Story Length: ~ 23 KB
Series: Prequel to "He Understands" Rating: PG
Category: gen Warnings: none
Pairing: none Time Frame: Old West, Post-Season 2
Genres: Character Study, Drama, Friendship, Hurt/Comfort Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: On the emotional anniversary of his family’s death, Chris learns something about Ezra that he'd never imagined.
Title: He Understands [1], [2], [3] (author page @ ff.net) offsite Story Length: ~ 50 KB
Series: Sequel to "He Sees" Rating: PG-13
Category: gen Warnings: none
Pairing: none Time Frame: Old West, Post-Season 2
Genres: Character Study, Drama, Friendship, Hurt/Comfort Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: Another anniversary, and events fitting for the day.
Review: sablecain invented something not supported, but neither disproved by canon, and made it work, which makes it obvious from the beginning that she is a very talented writer. Of course, I would be even happier if she didn't write solely gen fiction, but any story focusing not only on Chris' and Ezra's emotional pain, but also letting them interact one-on-one is a very good thing in my book. She definitely counts among a small group of gen authors in this fandom that you can expect continuous good work from.

Violette

Archived at: Blackraptor M7 Fan Fiction
Title: Black and White (story index | author page @ ff.net) offsite Story Length: ~ 365 KB
Series: none Rating: R
Category: gen Warnings: none
Pairing: none Time Frame: ATF Established Team
Genres: Action/Adventure, Angst, AU, Drama Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: Ezra's cousin is visiting, while the guys are looking for a new weapons buyer in town. Are the two connected?
Title: Blame (story index | author page @ ff.net) offsite Story Length: ~ 303 KB
Series: none Rating: R
Category: gen Warnings: none
Pairing: none Time Frame: ATF Established Team
Genres: Action/Adventure, Angst, AU, Drama, Hurt/Comfort Recommended: 06 Apr 2006
Summary: The boys celebrate the conclusion of a tough case, but something goes terribly wrong.
Review: Those two stories are but a small subset of the vast number of similar Ezra-centric gen stories set in the ATF universe that all deal with a reenacting of Ezra's initial difficulties in Atlanta. Many gen authors seem to take delight in painting Standish as the odd man out who still has not gained his teammates' trust. But while I have read more than my fill of that particular genre, I have to admit that Violette's spins on it are so well-written and gripping that I am more than willing to give in. She loves Ezra, and when you read her stories you'll feel it.

Review: Zeke Black stands out from all C/E authors because of her style and her apparent ease at staying true to the time the show is set in. She, better than anyone else, recognizes and depicts the efforts both men have to make to keep their relationship secret against a world that wouldn't understand or accept it. The surroundings she describes to us are dusty, gritty and sometimes even bleak, but no matter how little forthcoming her Chris and Ezra might be, she still manages to make it clear how much they care for each other. Finding out she has posted a new story is always a delight.
