miami vice fan fiction

In contrast to what many people think, Miami Vice is quite an intelligent show. There are a few episodes so bad watching them actually hurts, but all in all the producers raised many uncomfortable subjects and had the guts to let Sonny Crockett, Rico Tubbs, Martin Castillo and the other detectives even lose against the criminals on occasion that they were trying to apprehend. Crockett and Tubbs were friends and partners - equals -, although Crockett had more experience in Vice than Tubbs who'd gone through a somewhat unconventional promotion to detective. In their cases Crockett, in his undercover personality as Burnett, usually had the bigger and more decisive part to play while Tubbs, brought in later, acted as backup or potential buyer. Strangely enough most fan fiction authors prefer to see Tubbs as the dominant personality and Crockett as the poor helpless maiden in distress - which frankly turns my stomach. Whether Crockett is paired with Tubbs or with Castillo (the latter is the most prevalent pairing in the fandom), he usually is the bottom with little to no say in both their private (esp. sexual) and professional lives. The following stories are the handful of exceptions available on the internet.

The main pairing on this page is
Sonny Crockett / Ricardo Tubbs.

Title: A Portrait in Watercolors [1],
[2], [3], [4], [5], [6] (story index) offsite
Story Length: ~ 378 KB
Series: A Portrait in Watercolors Rating: NC-17
Category: Slash Warnings: violence
Pairing: Sonny Crockett / Ricardo Tubbs Time Frame: Post-Season 5
Genres: Action/Adventure, First Time, Fixit, Friendship Recommended: 23 May 2000
Summary: Set post-"Freefall", Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs go undercover in the world of art and porn, visiting an art exhibition aboard the yacht "Gay Priscilla". Enjoying the sea and the relaxed atmosphere, it's easy for the partners to let go of the past and enter a new future together.
Review: The title elfin has given to her story is very apt as it not only refers to a portrait painted of Crockett and Tubbs after they've become lovers, but also speaks of the feel of the story - tranquil, slow-moving, no hard edges. While I am not especially fond of the two gay OMCs she invented (they are too good to be true, and their instant rapport with Crockett and Tubbs doesn't feel right), I like this story exactly for its tranquility and for the slow tangible mending of wounds received by both partners in the last episodes of the show, especially in "Freefall". Crockett and Tubbs rediscover their relationship and find a new peace in the give and take between them.

Story Length: ~ 427 KB
Series: Wicked Games Rating: NC-17
Category: Slash Warnings: graphic m/m sex and violence, rape
Pairing: Sonny Crockett / Ricardo Tubbs Time Frame: Season 2
Genres: Action/Adventure, Angst, Character Study, Drama, First Time, Hurt/Comfort, PWP Recommended: 19 Jun 2000
Summary: A new case brings up bad memories for Sonny Crockett.
Review: I will always regret that, due to fannish demand at the time, Flamingo wandered over to Crockett/Castillo slash after writing but two Crockett/Tubbs stories. As always, she is exceptionally good at portraying the characters' emotions and lovingly details their struggles in accepting that they have fallen in love with their male partner. She also gives us an unparalleled insight into the circumstances that created Crockett's undercover persona Burnett as well as into a damaged but not broken Sonny who has learned to accept Burnett's wilder impulses to survive when on the job. Beautiful.
